Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of strengthening ties and expanding cooperation with Egypt as he commenced a visit to Cairo. This visit highlights the enduring relationship between the two nations as they celebrate 70 years of diplomatic engagement. President Xi, accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan, was welcomed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife upon arrival in Cairo.
In anticipation of his visit, Xi Jinping expressed in a statement the resilience of China and Egypt’s relationship despite shifts in the global landscape. He advocated for a deepening of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and the exploration of new avenues for collaboration. Xi underscored the significance of aligning the national development goals of both nations and called for joint efforts within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, prioritizing practical projects with enduring economic impact.
The Chinese president also highlighted the potential for expanded collaboration in diverse fields such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He stated that fostering stronger exchanges in these areas would enhance mutual understanding and fortify the bond between the people of China and Egypt. Xi emphasized the need for both countries to continue supporting each other on pivotal issues and safeguarding their shared interests.
Xi Jinping identified Egypt as a crucial partner in advancing cooperation between China and Arab countries, as well as China and Africa. He noted that both nations play significant roles as members of the Global South and called for closer coordination on international matters. Xi advocated for bolstered multilateral cooperation and concerted efforts to promote global peace and stability.
This visit is anticipated to further solidify the political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, paving the way for new opportunities in trade, infrastructure, technology, and other sectors.
