Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Guan-ling has made a significant impact at the World Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo, China, by securing two silver medals and one bronze in the women’s 57kg category. The 21-year-old showcased her strength and skill in the clean and jerk event, delivering successful lifts of 117kg, 119kg, and 125kg. Her highest lift of 125kg earned her a silver medal in that discipline. Additionally, her combined total of 215kg garnered her another silver medal, while she claimed a bronze in the snatch event.
This achievement marks an improvement for Chen from her previous performance at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships, where she won one silver and two bronze medals. Earlier this year, she also earned a bronze medal in the same category at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
The World Weightlifting Championships, which run until November 8, are a crucial event as they contribute qualification points towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. However, it is noteworthy that the women’s 57kg category is not included in the Olympic weightlifting program, which consists of six different weight classes.
