In a move to boost international collaboration on artificial intelligence, 29 countries have come together in Shanghai to form the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO). This newly established independent intergovernmental body will be headquartered in Shanghai and is tasked with advancing global AI governance and fostering international cooperation.
WAICO’s founding members include a diverse group of countries such as Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia, Indonesia, and China. The organization is committed to operating under the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter, emphasizing a people-centered approach to the development of artificial intelligence.
