China Establishes New Department to Accelerate Commercial Space Industry Growth

by admin477351

China has created a new department within its national space authority to strengthen and expand the country’s commercial space sector. The dedicated division for commercial space operations marks the first government agency focused specifically on supporting private and commercial space activities.
Alongside the new department, an action plan has been released outlining goals to be achieved by 2027. The strategy integrates commercial space development into the national space framework and sets out 22 measures targeting innovation, resource optimization, wider adoption of commercial space products, improved government services, and enhanced full-chain safety oversight.
China’s commercial space industry has grown rapidly in recent years, with private companies emerging as key contributors in satellite development and launch services. Five private firms—including i-Space, Galactic Energy, Space Pioneer, LandSpace, and Orienspace—have already completed orbital launch missions using their own rockets.
In the latest development, LandSpace plans to launch its first reusable rocket, the ZQ-3, in the coming weeks, aiming to advance China’s competitiveness in global commercial spaceflight.
