During Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung’s three-day visit to Belize, Taiwan and Belize signed two agreements to enhance their bilateral cooperation. Lin met with Belizean Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca to discuss expanding partnerships, culminating in the signing of a letter of intent between the University of Belize and Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund. This agreement aims to establish the Taiwan-Caribbean Academy, focusing on technical and vocational education, sustainable tourism, and economic cooperation among Taiwan’s diplomatic partners in the region.
The Taiwan-Caribbean Academy will be headquartered at the University of Belize, with contributions from Taiwanese universities in curriculum development and faculty planning. This initiative seeks to strengthen educational and economic ties between Taiwan and Belize, leveraging expertise from both nations to promote regional development.
In addition to the educational partnership, Taiwan and Belize also signed an agreement focused on diplomatic staff training. This agreement is designed to bolster the professional skills and capabilities of Belize’s foreign service, further enhancing the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
The visit and subsequent agreements underscore the ongoing commitment of Taiwan and Belize to deepen their longstanding partnership, with a focus on education and diplomatic cooperation as key areas of collaboration.
