Renowned actor Rupert Grint is set to reprise his beloved role as Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” marking his return to the character more than ten years after the Harry Potter film series concluded. Grint, who starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson in all eight films, will join the acclaimed stage production for a 17-week engagement starting in February 2027.
Reflecting on his return, Grint expressed excitement about revisiting a character that has been a significant part of his life since he was 11 years old. He noted that portraying Ron as a father adds a fresh perspective to the role, blending familiarity with novelty. Grint’s involvement in the play follows that of Tom Felton, his former co-star, who recently stepped into the shoes of Draco Malfoy on the Broadway stage. Felton’s stint is set to continue until January.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” first captivated audiences with its London premiere in 2016, eventually expanding to stages around the globe. The production has enjoyed immense success, selling over 14 million tickets worldwide. In New York alone, the show has generated over $532 million, underscoring its enduring popularity.
Grint, who made his Broadway debut in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play,” has since expanded his acting repertoire with roles in projects such as “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” His return to the magical world of Harry Potter coincides with the development of a new television series for HBO, which aims to introduce the enchanting story to a new generation of fans.
