BBC Review Could Hand Over iPlayer and Finance to Outsiders

by admin477351

Under mounting pressure from reduced licence‑fee revenue, the BBC is reportedly reviewing a plan to outsource key technology and financial roles—including those responsible for algorithms and platform operations.

If adopted, the move could impact jobs across UK hubs built to support regional representation. Staff are worried that outsourcing threatens the training of internal capability as well as control over essential services.

While the plan may provide short‑term financial relief, it also introduces concerns about reliance on external contractors and potential erosion of public service identity.

Broadcast unions say they were blindsided by the proposal and are calling for open consultation and firm guarantees that UK jobs and standards will be maintained.
